Degree of Protection IP
Electric fittings are preset in order to prevent the intrusion and contact with
solids and liquids with live parts. Resistance against penetration of solids
and liquids is expressed by the initials IP, followed by two digits that stand
for the degree of protection: the first referring to solids, the second to liquids.
First digit code
0 Non protected.
1 Protected against the penetration of solid objects larger than 50 mm.
2 Protected against the penetration of solid objects larger than 12 mm.
3 Protected against the penetration of solid objects larger than 2,5 mm.
4 Protected against the penetration of solid objects larger than 1 mm.
5 Protected against the penetration of dust.
6 Completely protected against the penetration of dust.
Second digit code
0 Non protected.
1 Protected against the vertical fall of water drops.
2 Protected against the fall of water at a maximum angel of 15°.
3 Protected against rain.
4 Protected against water spray from all directions.
5 Protected against water jets.
6 Protected against heavy seas.
7 Sealed against immersion up to 1 metre.
8 Sealed against submersion over 1 metre.
